![]() ![]() Thank you for your responding to my issue. I am guessing it has something to do with user permissions or with Java. I appreciate knowing that I can run OpenOffice on the Windows XP desktop, but would very much like to run it on the Windows 8.1 64-bit desktop also. I have thought about maybe trying to change user permission settings somewhere in C:\Users\myname\AppData but I thought I should post here before trying things such as that. In other words, C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4 Regarding my attempts to run any OpenOffice v4 version installation on this PC, I have even tried changing the permissions for the entire folder (in program files). ![]() My computer requires a password each time I log on to the computer. I am logged on to the Windows 8.1 PC as Administrator (I'm pretty sure). I have not looked in the Registry (yet) so I can't verify whether everything is in its "proper place and setting", so to speak, in the Registry. To be specific, I have tried renaming (and then renaming back) C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user. ![]() I have tried renaming the "user" folder, and that did not solve the problem. I have tried each of the solution sequences that I have seen posted by Hagar. And I have installed Java from the Oracle Java downloads page, not from any "software download" websites. I can successfully install any of the versions 4.0.1, 4.1.0, and 4.1.1. But so far, OpenOffice won't run on my Windows 8.1 PC. And I have tried virtually every option I have seen posted. I have visited virtually every single forum post there has been on such a problem. It won't run with Administrative Privileges. With each of the versions of OpenOffice on this Windows 8.1 PC 64-bit, OpenOffice will install but it won't run. I went to the Java download site and made sure that I am running the most recent version of Java. I do not currently have Microsoft Office installed on my PC. The version I have installed closest to the time of this post, is 4.1.1. I have installed and have uninstalled each of the following versions of OpenOffice (not necessarily in sequence). I suspect that the unacceptable entry format allowed in the original file on xp machine was what was causing the problem.īut it now appears to be resolved as my new file appears to work.I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit on a desktop PC that has all of the required specs (software and hardware) to run any of the OpenOffice versions.
